Even though most people know that I am huge lover of the zombie / vampire theme and the violence that goes with it.. I am an equally big sucker for romance. There isn't a Jane Austen series I have not seen, nor am I ever able to walk passed a bridal shop without staring inside to check out the dresses. Though I'm the eternal single and I always tell my friends I will end up as a crazy old cat lady, I can't help myself but gush over engagement and bridal photo's. I even have a folder on my desktop with favourites, you know - just in case.
I came across these engagement photo's and fell in love..

On our first date to a Japanese fusion restaurant, we share a sashimi premium appetizer which includes that delicious white fish I can’t figure out the name of and we have some light and crisp sake with undertones of peach and discuss our likes and backgrounds and share anecdotes about our New York experience and I pretend I do much more freelance graphic design than I do and I smile a lot and try to flirt but can’t really because we aren’t connecting on a cosmic mental level but we can still make out so I decide to get him pretty drunk to ensure that happens because I know I look good tonight I’ve tested out the outfit before, it works, and we go to the place around the corner with red lights and I tell him about these signature shots they have there which are whiskey chased with pickle juice and he just has to try them but he’s already drunk and is a little uneasy about it and they sound kind of weird but I tell him they’re on me and he caves and takes some shots and then oh yeah it’s time for make out city!!!!! so we sit in a corner on one of the black leather couches and nature just takes its course and our connection is great and I don’t even notice his beard and he begins to caress and run his hands through the back of my hair and then he stumbles upon the dreadlock I’ve been meaning to brush out but haven’t yet, and he gives me this look.

My life is complete. I have been 'streetspotted'. Well maybe I cheated a bit, seeing as the person who shot me is my sister in law (well not actual law, but practically a sister none the less..). But I still feel it's a huge compliment..!

Is it really possible to go from horribly predictable to extremely farfetched over and over and over again in the same book? I mean, I've been able to forgive you for the whole sparkling thing but you are going a bit overboard. No, I did not expect high quality literature - I mean, I get your books from the kids section. But seriously?
Yes, I will continue to read it. But it bettter improve, because right now it's snoozeville. And I'm already on page 519. Just 180 pages to go.

A little intuitive coloring..

Yesterday I got distracted. "What else is new?" you might think and yes I know. But this time it simply was my box of water paints I use at my internship, thinking how it was almost painting on itself. I loved the muddled state of it, paint everywhere. And since I had brought some of my other paint (because if you look closely you can see the reds and yellows have been very popular) I decided to do some painting myself. A little intuitive coloring as I like to call it. Just mixing up colors and letting them drip all over the paper, almost as though the inside of the paint box.

A new place?

But now some good news! I’m checking out a room tonight, in a house shared with 3 other girls – one of which is a great colleague and friend of mine . The place sounds so nice, perfect for a first home! So if I’m lucky, by 2010 I’ll be moving out and into a little dwelling of my own!

My mom was even so good as to keep an eye open for things for me whilst thrifting and oh my, such treasures she has found me! One of them is actually a slightly damaged leather Chesterfield couch, for 40 euros! How amazing is that? Now the only question is..will it fit through the staircase at my possible new place? I hope it will, because I’m already in love.
As soon as it’s out of the garage, I’ll make some pictures!

Though I haven’t actually seen the room yet, I’ve already been scouting for inspiration! Let me show you a small part of my inspiration folder:

I’m thinking about a clean and white base, with lush colors to brighten it up.

A mix of new and old (for me also known as IKEA and thrift finds).

Warm wooden elements.

A rich yet light feel.

And not to forget floor to ceiling bookcases. Perhaps in a bright color?

Though I'll probably go nuts with color, as I always do. My previous room did deserve it's name Villa Villekulla..

I have been feeling a little under the weather lately. I have an awful cough, which is very awkward when sitting in an overcrowded train during this pandemic in which everyone seems have become a germaphobe, so I desperately try not to cough which of course mounts into an even worse coughing attack complete with teary eyes and dripping nose (oh yes, very charming – I know).. Daily I pack my bag with eucalyptol handkerchiefs, anti-bacterial crème, a bottle of water and throat pastilles and I’m taking extra vitamin C in the mornings. I’m getting desperate trying not to get sick, that with my luck when the fun part of this month starts – I’m going to be sick. Oh joy.

When I heard the wind blow like mad and the rain pour down, whilst lying in bed in my attic room at 5.30 this morning, I felt the urge to simply pull the covers back over my head and stay there for the rest of the day. Yet knowing I have only 8 weeks of my internship left (of which 2 weeks are Christmas break) I dragged my behind out of the warm comfort that is my bed. Not bothered to apply any mascara whatsoever, as the rain would make sure that it would quickly end up on my cheeks instead of my lashes, I wrapped up in my new gigantic woolen scarf to ready myself for the battle ahead. The battle would consist of me, on my trusty bike versus the wind, great powerful raging wind. The prize? Me catching the train. Or not.

An epic battle followed, at times I was not even able to move my bike because the great power of the wind and I thought that if just started walking I would be faster. But I did not give up! And yes, I did make it to the train station in time. A lucky bonus was that it had stopped raining that morning.

But not anymore.

Since then it has been raining almost constantly.

I fear another battle will have to commence later this day.

One perhaps even fiercer.

I must gather my strength.

Buy chocolate.

Sleep in the train.

Listen to Eye of the Tiger. Grr.

I went out to buy the New Moon book (Twilight saga, I'm hooked..) and so in the book store I kept searching the titles in the adventure section, then the fantasy section and then the thriller section. But no New Moon. Then the shop-girl was so kind to show me where it was. It was in the kids section. And I felt a little silly, being a grown ass woman.
But still very excited and can't wait to start my intern ship again next week, so I can have 2 hours of blissful reading time every day whilst being in the train to Den Hague.

Yesterday was a great morning, it was all misty (not quite visible from the photo) and I took my dog out for a walk by the rhubarb fields near my house.

As I dragged her along, she's old and thought I was trotting her off to the woods so decided to stop walking every 5 metres to convince me not to, I adored the colours of early fall. Lots of bright, dark pinks, silvery greys, pale blues and lovely yellows.

Especially the colour of this moss inspired me.

And the most soothing sound.. the sound of damp dripping from the leaves of bushes.

I’m utterly in love with this look; I wish I could dress like this every day. I’m sure I’d feel incredibly feminine. But unfortunately being limited to bike-riding and public transport, rainy Dutch weather, not feeling like shaving my legs on a daily bases and a small budget, means my daily outfit contains of jeans, Chuck Taylors and a simple cotton H&M coat. Not too glamorous or very feminine, but way more practical. (But if going to Chloe fashion show is part of your job-description, I’d say why not!)

It's cold outside..

Fall weather has kicked in and I’m freezing. My love for sheer blouses only just started and already I‘ve had to banish them to a corner of closet simply for being climatically useless. Waking up in the morning has become even more unbearable because my bed is really warm (thanks to my super cheap Ikea fleece blanket) and the rest of my bedroom is really cold. And I keep forgetting to put on a proper coat instead of a cardigan, which is rather stupid because waiting on the tram at 8 am can be pretty cold…

Well to make a long story short, it’s cold and I don’t seem to be quite ready for it. Luckily I had an employee sale (meaning 50% off clothing, for staff only) last night and I scored a gorgeous leather jacket, thick cardigan and woolen scarf. Good start, right? Well, I do feel I am in need of a little more warmth to get me through these next few cold months.

And then I discovered this new store on Etsy, and I believe I have found what I'm in need for.

Procrastinating.. If you would look up this word in the dictionary, you will find a picture of me. I’m actually at my internship as I write this, watching kids go nuts on the playground. Youthful boisterousness, such a joy to watch!
Oops, distracted. Again. Though I do think I have reason to be a little unfocused lately, I mean having to catch the train of 6.56 in the morning hasn’t gotten into my system as of yet. And even though I’m in bed at 22.00, I don’t seem to get enough sleep. So don’t be alarmed if you come across my person in the train, completely passed out. No need for waking me, I need my sleep. Well do wake me, if I’m drooling.

But lately my favorite procrastinating activity has been Go Fug Yourself. No not really a site name you would want your supervisor to spot when he or she pops up behind you. So take care when you visit this site. Not that the content is in any way nasty or something, but it just doesn’t scream out busy bee now does it? I do find it highly amusing, perfect to lighten up a day filled with the excruciating agony of writing a very boring and very long work plan, with screaming kids on the background and me trying not to fall asleep. The humor is nice and crude, just the way I like it!

Whilst researching meditation rooms for a school thing, I came across the meditation room of the FIFA headquarters in Zurich and I think it is simply magical! The entire room is made out of onyx with lighting between the inside and outside wall, creating the beautiful glowing effect.

And how about this place? You'd never guess but it is actually inside a giant Buddha. Can you see the tiny windows in the top of his chest?

So what have I been up to then? Well. My love life is still unmentionable, didn't really go anywhere, didn't do anything exciting. Just hung out.

Finished my internship though. That's something. Enough to keep me up at night, because don't really feel like messing up. Again. And so I stare at the ceiling at night, night after night after night, whilst my thoughts ramble on and on. And that is no help. Because well, now I can't concentrate for shit. So voilà! This may be about two weeks late but still. Valentines day. Oh my freakin' god. I hate it. It's probably because of my sad single existence, but why do people have to go on and on about it? Days before people keep talking about what they are going to do, even when they think it's all commercial bullcrap they simply must discuss WHY. Oh but those people STILL send a card (because that's apparently not commercial). Rightyo.
But then! Valentines day is here! And everyone, and I mean EVERYONE asks "what are you going to do tonight?" "did you got any cards?" Forcing me to stare them down with a dark and ominous look and explain to them that for Valentines day I will be having a date with my tv and a gigantic bar of Toblerone. Like that wasn't embarrassing enough, they laugh dryly (like I was joking or something.) and give me "poor you" look. Honoust to god. I did this for about 6 times that weekend. And they laughed. And gave me that look. Because well, if you're single and not dating on Valentines day you're pathetic and everyone feels sorry for you. And that's me. Oh lucky me.

Phew that's better. Just had to get that of my chest.

My fascination for vampires started way back when I was like 11 years old and I read this book "the Silver Kiss" ("Blood and Chocolate" took my fancy as well) by Annette Curtis Klause. And I was hooked. So I started watching shows as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel. Then came "Queen of the Damned" "Underworld" and "Blade" (duh.). So to make a long story short, I was and am still hooked.

And now I have a new addiction on the vampire front..

Because it is one HOT show.. Plus gives a nice new spin to the whole vampire theme. So whoever likes a healthy dose of blood, romance, a dash of action and mystery, plus some southern charm; GO WATCH.

Oh and I so can't wait for this..

Oh and nope. Haven't watched Twilight yet, a hype has a weird counter effect on me, I wait until it's over, then I watch it. Because well, I don't do hypes.

Inauguration Day

So I didn't really watch the inauguration (btw what an annoying word to pronounce..) day live on TV, I did watch Aretha Franklin singing, a few speeches but when the lunch started I stopped watching. (I mean, what is sadder than watching other people eat. On TV. From a great distance. Not even being able to hear their conversations or see what they are actually eating.)

I did however watch a few bits on youtube and I must say, besides Obama's powerful speech, I adored this.

And oh my, that first lady does know how to dress to impress..!

Since I do not have a drivers license, I'm kind of stuck with using public transport, which isn't really a big issue. The problem is the annoying behaviour of my fellow passengers. For some odd reason they think they can get away with simply anything.. Which is sort of true, because nobody has the balls to tell them different and neither have I. So I just curse at them in my mind, exchange ennoyed looks with other pissed off passengers and sigh loudly.

And seeing as I have to take the train to both my workplaces (yes, I actually now have two jobs besides school), my public trainsport annoiances has grown significantly.

My first hate has to be eating / drinking in the train. Yeah, I do it as well. But does it ALWAYS have to be smelly fast food? And omfg. Please eat with you mouth closed. That also means with chewing gum, you are not a freakin' cow. If you just have to have that immensely big milkshake, I am telling you this: when nothing comes through the straw it's empty. STOP SUCKING IT. Oh, and no, drinking a beer is not okay when it's 8.30 in the morning.

Secondly, music. I listen to music in the train, simply because I need something to drown out all the annoying chattering on phones or eatingsounds of my fellowpassengers, but when your music actually manages to pentrates through my headphones in to my ears then I must say you are either deaf or have a wish to be. Or perhaps you think to be kind by letting the rest of the train enjoy the bass of your music, that, my friend, is very unneccesary.
The most annoying this is offcourse when someone doesn't even have the decensy to use headphones, oh no..! If you have a cellphone which can play music, why even bother with those pesky things..? Everyone loves "gangsta rap", don't they?

Thirdly, when it is rushhour, I would greatly appreciate it if you would take your big ass bag from the couch, pull in your legs and make some room. That way we don't have to get all akward when I ask if I could please sit next to you, nor will you make kick you in the shins or throw my bag into your face as I stumble over your feet.

And, I'm almost done, then runny noses. Yes, it's winter, we all get a cold. But could you be so kind as not try and snort as though want get the snot as far up as to your brains? Oh same goes for the flimsy snorting, every three seconds. Just use a handkercief, it's okay to use one.

A minor annoiance: do not think I am actually so kind as to look after your bag while you go to the toilet. One: you did not ask me to. Two: I do not know you, so if it get's stolen then it just sucks to be you, it doesn't affect me at all.

The are just a few thing to keep in mind when you travel by public transport. It is fairly simple: just sit down, read your free newspaper and be quiet. That's all I'm asking for.

Had too much sugar this weekend.. It started with Sinterklaas (sort of Dutch / Belgian version of Santa Claus), not that we celebrated it, but we still had lots of sugary treats for us to feast upon. Then I had a little baking afternoon with my friend Suuz, decorating the cupcakes with way too much icing was offcourse the best part.

Today was a slow slow slow Sunday. I spent the larger part of my day watching Gossip Girl.. Even though I wasn't that in to it when it began, now I am hooked.. Because of one man. Most of the others just annoy me (oh Serena, yes.. I feel so sorry for you and your problems.. it must be hard being all godess like and shit. Dan is just a twat and don't get me started about "little J") and meh.. I have to admit that Blair is cool because she nice and bitchy plus a little nuts. But back to that man. Ah yes. His name is: Chuck Bass. And he is absolutely jummy. Yes, he is a bit of a prick.. But that adds to the charm of him.

Ah yes. Christmas is going to be too awsome, as I will be spending it in Paris with my beloved family..!
That also means I'll have to save up to be able to do a little shopping there.. But seeing as I don't have regular work I'm on a serious budget till the end of December. But the issue is, that it's Paris! I dont want to look a twat in my shabby (highly comfortable, but not very elegant) clothing in the one of the most stylin' cities I know.. So I've been desperately going through my regular blogs to get some inspiration, seeing as my shabby gear will just have to do (but perhaps there might be some cool new combinations possible..).

A weekend away. Finally.

I was in Belgium last weekend! I took the train to Antwerp, where a friend picked me up and we jammed ourselves into a packed bus to Turnhout. There we met up with the rest of the rather large group and got installed. The food (completely biological of course) was delicious! Especially the fruit, that was just soooo jummy.

A bit of a shame was the lack of showers.. Seeing as I shower at least once a day, not being able to shower for three days (especially after working at smoky fires). But plenty of deodorant and rose scented make up remover did the trick. We slept on the floor of a classroom with 20 others, quite cozy and close together (very interesting with people you don’t even know) sometimes getting an elbow or knee in my back but that didn’t really bother me. The ridiculously loud snoring kind of did.. > <

Oh and the highlight was that we did a workshop in forging! Three proper blacksmiths (was secretly hoping for an Orlando Bloom a la Pirates of the Caribbean or Kingdom of Heaven, but ah well) taught a group of us to work the fire, heat up iron and working with the iron. The hammers were crazy heavy and the fire was bit scary in the beginning, as well as the iron itself as it got really hot (even when it wasn’t glowing anymore it was hot, so many times I had to remind myself not to touch it) but as time passed the heat didn’t bother me one bit. It was great fun, even though my hands were really sore by the end of the day. I made a nail and two free forms (better described as “curly shaped things”). Pictures will follow! ^^

Oh and I forgot that playing musical chairs with a large group was such great fun!

Besides that I kind of think I would rock at being unemployed, having loads of casual sex, getting stoned and protesting against war. Plus not having to worry about shaving the armpits. I can't focus. On nothing. I actually managed to take the wrong bus TWICE this week, that meant I went completely the wrong way and it took me over half an hour longer to get home. I mean, can someone please wake me the f*ck up? So I can finally finish my report for school which I should have finished today, but isn't even close to it. Every time I try to work on it my brainactivity turns down to zero. I haven't got a clue where my mind is at lately, but has got shitty timing. I have things to do. So if you happen to find my brain, please return it, there will be a fitting reward.

So unfair!
My hair is actually going straight.. I mean come on! I finally started to appreciate my curls and now they are vanishing.. I’m going back to the hair I had when I was like 8 years old, not really straight, nor curly. Oh and best of all; frizzy. How annoying. Apparently it’s not even that strange, it has something to do with hormones. Perfect! Like having hormones constantly affecting my mood isn’t enough, now they have go and to spoil my hair!

I’ve decided to now finally take the plunge and cut my hair short. Really, properly short. Oh and bangs. Yes. Bangs. Those sideways asymmetrical bangs. But I first have to wait until my usual hairdresser get’s back from her 3 week holiday. I need her to give me the green light, I think she may better know if it actually suits me.. Until then, I’ll just have to suffer stupid hair.

Should have written days ago, but sheer laziness kept me from doing so. No I haven’t spend my entire break lying in bed, I actually left the house!

My girlies from my former work and I skedaddled off to the Efteling last Tuesday. For those who don’t know the Efteling, it’s an amusement park with sort of a fairytale theme. Check it here. I have plenty of childhood memories of going to this park and still gets me all excited and giggly when I get to go there. Especially the Droomvlucht (freely translated: Dreamflight), it’s a ride in which you go into this cart which swings you around this fairy world, trolls and glittering castles included. I desperately tried to take pictures of it, but unfortunately the cart when too fast so I only got odd photo’s of limbs of the fairies.. > < Pardoes, that made me go a little mad. But what place can you better scream on the top of your longs, break out in random dancing and pretend to lick the bum of a statue than an amusement park. I mean, don’t they kind of expect you to go nuts?
Well one thing is for shure! I enjoyed it fully!

On thursday I went to Utrecht with my mum and sister for some retail therapy. I wanted a new wintercoat and some proper flats, but off course I could not find them. Well I found plenty, but none that either looked good on me or fell within my tiny budget. Adding a little p.m.s. to the frustration of not finding what I wanted made me go all irritated. (And I do apologize for my erratic behavior mummy!) But still went home with a rather lovely deep v-neck cable-knit sweater and a pair of new pajamas. So it wasn’t a huge waste.. ^^

I also visited my great aunt with my grandmother yesterday, which was fun even though the cabdriver was quite the idiot when his navigator did not understand the road was blocked due to maintenance and he got all confused..

The rest of my time I wasted with watching Firefly, refolding the contents of my closet (which took me all day, how sad is that?) and trying to work on some reports for my internship. Ah yes, just one more day of my fall break and then I have to get back to real life. *Sigh*.
